Upcoming and Recent Speaking Engagements on ERISA and Insurance Matters

In March, Mr. Hoskins will record two CLE presentations for the South Carolina Bar's on-line learning section.  Each video presentation will be approximately an hour.  Both deal with handling issues under ERISA.  The first is entitled "Handling ERISA Benefit Claims" and the second is entitled "Health Insurance Subrogation and Reimbursement Claims".

Mr. Hoskins will speak on February 18, 2011 in a program entitled "Insurance Law from A to Z" sponsored by the National Business Institute.  Mr. Hoskins will speak on Strategic Tips and Tactics for handling insurance claims.  The program will be held in Columbia, South Carolina.

Mr. Hoskins will speak on February 25, 2011 in a program entitled "Auto Injury Litigation From Start to Finish" sponsored by the National Business Institute.  Mr. Hoskins will speak on bad faith and related causes of action.  The program will be held in Columbia, South Carolina.

Mr. Hoskins has been invited to speak at a Symposium at the University of South Dakota School of Law in early 2011 to speak on a law review article he is writing at the request of the University concerning equitable estoppel and the law of ERISA.  The date for the program has not yet been scheduled.

Mr. Hoskins spoke at a Symposium at the Charleston School of Law in Charleston, South Carolina on January 28, 2011.  Mr. Hoskins addressed the recent national healthcare reform law and how it can be expected to affect participants in ERISA plans.  The Symposium is open to attorneys and healthcare professionals.

Mr. Hoskins was a speaker on October 13, 2010 at an insurance CLE entitled "Advanced Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist Law".  Mr. Hoskins spoke on practical tips for trial attorneys to handle ERISA subrogation and reimbursement issues.  The program will be sponsored by the National Business Institute and will be held in Columbia, South Carolina.  To order the program, click here.

On August 5, 2010, Mr. Hoskins was a featured speaker at the annual convention of the South Carolina Association for Justice.  That conference was held in Hilton Head, South Carolina and Mr. Hoskins spoke on emerging trends and remedies available under ERISA.

On Friday, July 30, 2010, Mr. Hoskins spoke at a CLE sponsored by the South Carolina Bar on the topic of the recent health insurance law known as the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.  The CLE was held in Columbia, South Carolina and the materials and a video of the presentation can be purchased here.

Mr. Hoskins spoke at a CLE sponsored by National Business Institute in Columbia, South Carolina on February 26, 2010 on "Settling Uninsured and Underinsured Motorist Claims". 

Mr. Hoskins spoke at CLEs sponsored by National Business Institute in Greenville and Columbia, South Carolina on December 8 and 9, 2009 on "Insurance Coverage Litigation".  Mr. Hoskins presented on litigating the insurance claim and ethical issues.  This teleconference was sponsored by National Business Institute and a recording and course materials can be purchased from the company website, click here.

Mr. Hoskins spoke in October 2009 in a CLE concerning "Advanced UM/UIM Insurance Issues".

Mr. Hoskins spoke on August 2, 2009 in Chicago, Illinois on Life Insurance Coverage Issues at the American Bar Association's National Annual Convention.

Mr. Hoskins spoke on February 19, 2009 in a CLE concerning Uninsured and Underinsured Motorist Coverage.  That CLE was also held in Columbia, SC and Mr. Hoskins addressed the ethics and litigation portions of the presentation.

Mr. Hoskins spoke at an employment law continuing education seminar sponsored by the National Business Institute on June 4, 2008. That presentation was in Columbia, South Carolina and Mr. Hoskins' topic was recent developments in ERISA law.

On May 21, 2008, Mr. Hoskins spoke at a CLE sponsored by the South Carolina Bar on the US Supreme Court LaRue decision in which he represented Mr. LaRue.  Mr. Hoskins' hour long presentation focused on all aspects of that important decision.  His presentation was given in the context of a broader employment law seminar held at the Capital Club in Columbia, South Carolina.  The program can be purchased through the South Carolina Bar.

On May 9, 2008, Mr. Hoskins spoke at a CLE sponsored by the Mecklenburg County Bar Association in Charlotte, North Carolina concerning his LaRue case.

Firm Attorney Rob Hoskins spoke for the South Carolina Bar at a continuing legal education course focusing on liens. Mr. Hoskins discussed ERISA subrogation liens. That presentation was held on May 2, 2008 in Columbia, South Carolina. The presentation can be purchased on disc or other formats.

Mr. Hoskins spoke on April 11, 2008 as part of a nationwide audio conference with two esteemed attorney colleagues from California on the impact of his recent US Supreme Court case, LaRue v. Mr. Hoskins spoke on February 11, 2009 at a CLE presented in Columbia, South Carolina entitled "Litigating ERISA Claims".  Mr. Hoskins spoke on the following topics:  (1) Subrogation and Plan Reimbursement Claims, (2) Class Action Suits, and (3) Ethical Dilemmas.  This teleconference was sponsored by National Business Institute and a recording and course materials can be purchased from the company website, click here.

Mr. Hoskins spoke on December 16 and 18, 2008 in a National Business Institute sponsored conference on "Insurance Coverage Litigation".  That presentation was held in both Greenville and Columbia.

Mr. Hoskins spoke at a CLE sponsored by the National Business Institute entitled "Advanced Employment Law" on October 1, 2008.  The program was presented in Columbia, South Carolina.  Mr. Hoskins' topic was "ERISA Breach of Fiduciary Duty Claims".  He discussed the Supreme Court's recent decision in his LaRue v. DeWolff, Boberg & Associates case, he presented a breach of fiduciary duty case law update and discussed the Pension Protection Act of 2006 and the Department of Labor's 2007 regulations implemented thereunder.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

On February 25, 2008, Mr. Hoskins spoke at a continuing legal education course focusing solely on ERISA issues with some esteemed colleagues at the Clarion Town House Hotel in Columbia, South Carolina. On February 6, 2008, Mr. Hoskins was a co-presenter at a national teleconference dedicated to ERISA pension issues and directed to nationwide human resource professionals.

On November 2, 2007, Mr. Hoskins spoke to the South Carolina Claimant Attorneys for Workers' Compensation Organization on the "Ethical Handling of Denied and Disputed Claims Including Lien Issues". That topic dealt with the interplay between ERISA and Workers' Compensation laws and claims. That convention was held at the Grove Park Inn in Asheville, North Carolina.
